COURSE DETAILS

WHY COMPLETE A CHC50213 DIPLOMA OF SCHOOL AGE EDUCATION AND CARE:

The CHC50213 Diploma of School Age Education and Care is the next step for those who already hold a CHC40113 Certificate IV in School Age Education and Care as it is the second level of qualification in the school age care services industry and is focussed on middle childhood (children aged from 5 to 12 years).

Those holding this qualification take on higher levels of responsibility in all areas of school age education and care, including leading others.

DURATION OF QUALIFICATION:

24 months

DELIVERY METHOD:

You will gain the knowledge and skill required for this qualification through:

- On the job experience in a regulated education and care workplace.

- Self directed learning using resources we provide.

- Attending a minimum of 48 hours of online professional development workshops (provided by One World for Children).

- Working with your own experienced Trainer Assessor.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Work experience is gained through employment in your own workplace or we find you a placement. This must include a minimum of 240 hours working within a regulated school age education and care service. Additional hours may be required.

WHAT YOU NEED:

A computer, laptop, ipad or tablet.

A reliable internet connection.

Interest in working with children aged from birth to six years.

A Working With Children Check

WHAT ONE WORLD FOR CHILDREN PROVIDE:

We provide all learning and assessment resources, and individual Trainer Assessor, visits in your workplace or placement venue, free unlimited professional development, access to our ECE Facilitated Learning Facebook page.

COURSE FEES:

$300 ($150 for concession card holders) non-refundable administration fee for those eligible for funding under the Skills First program delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth government funding.

FIRST AID - HLTAID004:

You are responsible for obtaining your own first aid qualification.

The first aid certificate must be current when you complete your qualification.

The first aid course must be HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting.

ASSESSMENT:

We assess you through a written assessment, discussion and by watching how you perform in a education and care workplace.

EXAMPLES OF TASKS YOU WILL UNDERTAKE IN THIS QUALIFICATION AND JOB ROLE:

- following policies and procedures

- recording using written documents

- developing and documenting programs of activities and experiences for children aged 5 to 12 years

- understanding, implementing and supporting others to follow national guidelines such as Standards, Regulations and Frameworks

- working with and leading people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds

- leading others and participating in the maintainance of a clean and hygienic environment

- food handling and menu development

- developing strategies for educating children: children must learn to understand the world, communicate with each other, trust and engage in learning activities

- developing relationships with parents and negotiating to meet their needs

- supporting children to gain identity by finding out who they are and celebrating their similarities and differences

- working with children who have additional support needs

- working as part of a team, leading discussions and meetings, and providing directions and instructions

Workplace Based Training

If you currently work in or about to commence work in, a registered education and care service, we are happy to provide training and assessment that makes the most of your situation.

If you are just starting out or wanting to further develop your career, we are happy to help you find an appropriate 'placement service' to participate within.

Prior to commencement of training our friendly and experienced Trainer Assessor will discuss your needs and find out about your current knowledge and skill. This might highlight credits or recognition of prior learning (RPL) that could be applied.

Throughout your study a Trainer Assessor will work with you individually, providing learning materials and frequently getting in touch with you to provide support, training and assessment.

You will be provided with a personalised online login area where you can communicate with us, view your progress and upload assessments.

You will be visited in a workplace by your Trainer Assessor as you achieve milestones throughout your study.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL)

RPL is about gaining recognition of the skills and knowledge you already have. This process includes collecting information about your knowledge and skill using a variety of methods, ultimately resulting in you achieving credit toward units of study. RPL takes place for all learners enrolled with One World for Children prior to the formal training commencement. Funding through the Department of Education and Training (DET)

If you are eligible for Victorian Skills First funding, we support accessibility by offering free tuition with a one off $300 administration fee ($150 for concession card holders).
