For people who wish to gain knowledge and skill through theory and a study of child development. Curriculum is investigated in substantial depth to allow graduates of the Diploma of Children's Services (ECEC) to plan and implement programs that suit individual children and support their interests, skills and developent. At this level leadership is vital, so strengths in working as a team will be expanded. |
It is the natural next step for those who already hold a Certificate III in Children’s Services (the prerequisite qualification) to take a step into Diploma level responsibilities. With recognition of current competencies and prior learning, trained and experienced workers may well gain substantial credits towards the Diploma of Children’s Services.
There are two ways to gain this qualification - through completing a training program, or undertaking a recognition of prior learning. Once you know which of these options best apply to you, then you can access further information.
See below for a general outline of the program types available to you. For more detailed information, however, click on the links at the bottom of this page.
Higher Education and Skills Group funding
The Diploma of Children's Services (ECEC) is available as a government funded option either under a traineeship or non-traineeship scheme for new workers through the Victorian Training Guarantee.
The Victorian Training Guarantee is making training more accessible to people who do not have post-school qualifications or who want to gain a higher qualification than they already hold.
To be eligible you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia. If you are also under 20 years old you will be eligible. If you are over 20 years of age you will be eligible if you are enrolling into a course that is higher than any qualification you already hold.
This training can be delivered as a self funded training program to people who hold a Certificate III in Children's Services, and who currently work in the industry. Individuals who are not currently working in children's services will be required to undertake voluntary work in a service either on a weekly basis or as placement blocks to gain this qualification.
The Diploma of Children's Services (ECEC) can also be gained through a self funded assessment only process.
