FURTHER DETAILS

Class based training occurs at our Children's Services Centre in Geelong (407-411 Thompson Road, North Geelong, 3215). One World for Children also manage the amazing One World Children's Centre. It is within this children's centre that we hold regular classes and make use of the children's centre to suppliment your experience working with children.

On-the-job training If you currently work in, or are about to commence work in a registered children's services centre, we are happy to provide you training that makes the most of your situation. If you are just starting out or wanting to further develop your career and you have no work place available to you, One World for Children are happy to help you find an appropriate service to participate in. This is called your 'placement service'.

Prior to your commencement of training you will meet one of our friendly and experienced Trainer Assessors and they will have a discussion with you to find out what you already know. This discussion may highlight the opportunity for you to gain credits and/or exemptions toward your course completion through recognition of prior learning (RPL).

Whether in a workplace or placement, your individual Trainer Assessor will provide you with learning materials to read and reflect on, they will be contactable to support you as you learn and implement your new skills and knowledge, and they will assess your competence within your work or placement environment.

Once you start training you will be encouraged to upload your completed assessments into your own private login. This means your Trainer Assessor will receive your assessment immediately. Although you may provide your assessments through mail or by dropping them in to us, uploading ensures you receive feedback quickly and there is no concern about loss of any of your work.

Your Trainer Assessor looks for milestones that indicate you are ready for a workplace or placement visit, and once these milestones are reached they will come to you and assess your skills on the job. This is an excellent time to share your ideas and thoughts with the Trainer Assessor and for them to give you valuable feedback.

It is expected that you will achieve your Diploma within a 24 month time frame, of course your experience and your commitment to study can see you achieve this goal in less time.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) RPL is about gaining recognition of the skills and knowledge you already have. This process includes collecting information about your knowledge and skill using a variety of methods, ultimately resulting in you achieving credit toward units of study. RPL assessment takes place for all learners enrolled with One World for Children prior to the formal training commencement. If you think you could apply for full RPL of your course and for more information about RPL, just click here.
